Hair transplantation at St. Louis Hair Restoration is a procedure that involves moving hair follicles from the back and sides of the scalp, called the donor area, to the area on top of the scalp that is experiencing hair loss, called the recipient site. When performed by an experienced hair transplant physician with an artist’s eye and the proper tools, a hair transplant is virtually undetectable.

Healthy and thick hair is an indicator of youth and can enhance a person’s appearance. If you are suffering from thinning hair or experiencing baldness, a hair transplant may be perfect for you.

Hair Transplant Techniques

Hair transplantation can be performed using a number of techniques: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT, or “the strip method”), and Robotic Hair Transplantation.

FUE

FUE

The Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique is a minimally invasive way to restore your hair. By individually harvesting follicles from the donor, follicles are then transplanted to your thinning area, leaving you with no linear scar or stitches.

FUT

FUT

The donor area is harvested by removing tissue which contains healthy hair follicles. This area is then sutured leaving a thin linear scar which is covered by hair. The tissue is dissected under microscope into individual follicles which are transplanted into the thinning areas.

ROBOTIC

ROBOTIC

Surgeons may use a robotic system or motorized systems such as NeoGraft to perform hair transplants. While controlled by the doctor, the automated robot extracts from the donor areas and newer versions can also create recipient sites in the thinning areas.

Non-Surgical Hair Rejuvenation

Non-Surgical Hair Rejuvenation

Non-Surgical Hair Rejuvenation, also known as platelet-rich plasma therapy, is a treatment that involves drawing a patient’s blood, separating the platelets from the blood itself, and injecting the platelets into the scalp.

Eyebrow

Eyebrow Hair Restoration

Apart from performing their function of shielding the eyes from sunlight, sweat and dust, our eyebrows are also instrumental in defining our facial features.

What Causes Baldness?

The primary reason for hair loss is genetics – in most bald people, hair loss is a result of a hormone called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). In someone who is genetically susceptible to hair loss, DHT binds to the hair follicle which causes it to miniaturize. The follicle becomes weaker and more brittle until DHT destroys the follicle. Fortunately, the follicles in the donor area are not susceptible to DHT so they can be transplanted into the area affected by hair loss and will remain unsusceptible to DHT.

What Is a Hair Transplant Like?

At St. Louis Hair Restoration, the entire day is dedicated to you. A hair transplant procedure takes a full day but it is really quite comfortable. Most of the day is spent lying in our procedure chair watching television or listening to music while the doctor and staff are working. We have a list of movies that you can select from and you can also choose the music. You are able to take breaks any time you would like, are able to use the restroom, and our office supplies lunch.

Hair Transplantation Cost

Because every hair transplant procedure is different, hair transplantation cost will vary depending on each client’s unique situation. Price is determined by many factors including whether the FUE, FUT, or Robotic technique is utilized along with patient goals.
